Repellent and non-repellent termiticides

Termiticides are pesticides used for pest termites’ control. One of the possible divisions of these insecticides is dividing into repellent and non-repellent products. Here we give a list of some of the commonly used termiticides.

Basically these two groups of termiticides are differentiated by how termites are affected when they encounter treated soil. Repellent termiticides do not kill termites, because insects are able to detect the treated soil and do not tunnel into it. On the other hand, as termites tunnel through the soil treated with non repellent termiticides, they contact those chemicals or ingest them and die.

Some insecticides used as repellent termiticides are:

Bifenthrin, Biflex TC, Cypermethrin, Demon TC, Dragnet FT, Fenvalerate, Permethrin, Pyrethroids, Prelude, Prevail, Talstar, Tribute.

Some insecticides used as non-repellents are:

Chloronicotinyls, Chlorophenapyr, Fipronil, Imidicloprid, Phantom, Phenylpyrazols, Pyrrols, Premise, Termidor.

All synthetic chemicals classified as "Repellent Termiticides" are pyrethroids. Both repellent and non-repellent termiticides have proven satisfactory for making effective barriers when applied properly.

2010-09-03 I believe using a non repellant product such as Termidor containing fipronil as the active ingredient would be your best choice. If properly applied, Termidor has a 5 year guarantee, and will warranty the work.

2010-01-30 I am a new salesman to the pest control industry. I appreciate the "repellent and non-repellent" division you have provided in this article. It is the first such informative article I have discovered. I do have a question for the IPM folks. When applying a pre-construction treatment, soil poisoning, is it best to use a repellent instead of a non-repellent termiticide? What conditions dictate the best termitcide (repellent vs. non-repellent)? Thank you.
